Sacramento City Unified School District

Sacramento City Unified School District was founded in 1854 and is one of the oldest K-12 districts in the western United States. SCUSD serves 43,175 students on 75 campuses spanning 76 square miles.

Success Stories in Program-Wide Implementation and Sustainability:

  • We have purchased Teaching Pyramid Tool kits for all our classrooms
  • We have 10 new teaching teams receiving training this year
  • We have two days of Teaching Pyramid Professional Development for all staff
  • Every other month we are doing the In-Service Spotlights for all staff
  • Embedded Teaching Pyramid into our Mental Wellness Observations
  • A majority of our classrooms have Expectations and Visual Schedules posted
  • Our administration has made social and emotional development and the Teaching Pyramid a priority in the Head Start grant and is in the planning stages of developing implementation strategies
Sacramento Education and Training Agency (SETA)

The Sacramento Employment and Training Agency (SETA) Head Start mission is to improve the lives of low-income children by providing quality comprehensive child development services that are family focused, including education, health, nutrition and mental health. SETA and its delegate agencies serve over 5,500 children and families each year.

Success Stories in Program-Wide Implementation and Sustainability:

  • We have created a successful inter-agency partnership with Sac City Unified School District
  • We have revamped our Intervention Specialist position in direct response to the Teaching Pyramid framework
  • We have added Second Step to our curriculum to support implementation of the Teaching Pyramid
  • We created and distributed a set of Book Nook materials for Early Head Start and Head Start classrooms
  • Teachers agency-wide have shifter their approach to challenging behavior in the classroom
  • Teachers are asking more questions, and reminding children, and talking more about the Program-Wide Expectations
  • Teachers are less reactive and more proactive in their approach to children
