Therefore, it is up to us, the adults, to model and practice regulation as well as provide the environment within which children are encouraged to practice the skills they need to develop meaningful relationships and successfully manage themselves within differing environments. These are life skills.<\/p>\n<p>WestEd\u2019s CA Teaching Pyramid offers opportunities to reflect on current practices and empower the workforce in our school systems by providing evidence-based strategies and tools that have been shown to increase social emotional skill development and decrease behavior adults find challenging.<\/p>\n<p>We began piloting the Early Elementary framework in 2021. Working within the elementary system, we have found it important to show the alignment with PBIS\/MTSS systems in place. As we say in our training, CA Teaching Pyramid for Early Elementary, is PBIS for young children, birth to 8 years old.<\/p><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><div class=\"x-section e1251-e42 myr-0 age-groups\" id=\"pbis\"><div class=\"x-row x-container max width e1251-e43 myr-2 myr-3 myr-5 myr-b\"><div class=\"x-row-inner\"><div class=\"x-col e1251-e44 myr-j\"><div class=\"x-div e1251-e45 myr-n myr-o myr-p myr-q\"><div class=\"x-text x-text-headline e1251-e46 myr-10 myr-12 myr-13\"><div class=\"x-text-content\"><div class=\"x-text-content-text\"><h2 class=\"x-text-content-text-primary\">PBIS &amp; MTSS<\/h2>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><div class=\"x-row x-container max width e1251-e47 myr-2 myr-3 myr-5 myr-c\"><div class=\"x-row-inner\"><div class=\"x-col e1251-e48 myr-j\"><div class=\"x-div e1251-e49 myr-n myr-o myr-p\"><div class=\"x-text x-content e1251-e50 myr-15 myr-16 myr-19 myr-1a myr-1b\"><p>There is great overlap in the key characteristics\u00a0of the CA Teaching Pyramid and PBIS.<\/p>\n<ul>\n \t<li>Both are a multi-tiered framework comprised of a continuum of evidence-based practices that are organized in three-tiered continuum of prevention, promotion and intervention.<\/li>\n \t<li>The principal difference between the CA Teaching Pyramid and PBIS is that the CA Teaching Pyramid is uniquely designed to address the needs and contexts of programs serving younger children by taking into account brain-based learning needs, developmental ranges, and differences in school experience.<\/li>\n<\/ul><\/div><\/div><div class=\"x-div e1251-e51 myr-n myr-s myr-t myr-u\"><blockquote class=\"x-quote e1251-e52 myr-1f\"><span class=\"x-graphic x-quote-mark-opening\" aria-hidden=\"true\"><i class=\"x-icon x-graphic-child x-graphic-icon x-graphic-primary\" aria-hidden=\"true\" data-x-icon-s=\"&#xf10d;\"><\/i><\/span><div class=\"x-quote-content\"><div class=\"x-quote-text\">I would mention that this is the foundation for PBIS and it was very eye opening and helpful.<\/div><footer class=\"x-quote-cite\"><span class=\"x-quote-cite-text\">Participant<\/span><\/footer><\/div><span class=\"x-graphic x-quote-mark-closing\" aria-hidden=\"true\"><i class=\"x-icon x-graphic-child x-graphic-icon x-graphic-primary\" aria-hidden=\"true\" data-x-icon-s=\"&#xf10e;\"><\/i><\/span><\/blockquote><\/div><\/div><div class=\"x-col e1251-e53 myr-g myr-j myr-l myr-m\"><div class=\"x-div e1251-e54 myr-n myr-o myr-p myr-q\"><figure class=\"x-div e1251-e56 myr-n myr-o myr-p\"><span class=\"x-image e1251-e57 myr-v myr-x\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/cainclusion.org\/resources\/tp\/images\/ee\/assets\/mtss.png\" width=\"960\" height=\"540\" alt=\"MTSS is a framework that brings together both RTL and PBIS\" loading=\"lazy\"><\/span><\/figure><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><div class=\"x-section e1251-e58 myr-0 myr-1 age-groups\" id=\"authorization\"><div class=\"x-row x-container max width e1251-e59 myr-2 myr-3 myr-5 myr-d\"><div class=\"x-row-inner\"><div class=\"x-col e1251-e60 myr-j\"><div class=\"x-div e1251-e61 myr-n myr-o myr-p myr-q\"><div class=\"x-text x-text-headline e1251-e62 myr-10 myr-12 myr-13\"><div class=\"x-text-content\"><div class=\"x-text-content-text\"><h2 class=\"x-text-content-text-primary\">Authorization of Trainer and Cadre Facilitators<\/h2>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><div class=\"x-row x-container max width e1251-e63 myr-2 myr-3 myr-5 myr-e\"><div class=\"x-row-inner\"><div class=\"x-col e1251-e64 myr-g myr-j myr-l\"><div class=\"x-div e1251-e65 myr-n myr-o myr-p myr-q\"><figure class=\"x-div e1251-e67 myr-n myr-o myr-p\"><span class=\"x-image e1251-e68 myr-v myr-y\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/cainclusion.org\/resources\/tp\/images\/ee\/assets\/EE-3.png\" width=\"420\" height=\"540\" alt=\"MTSS is a framework that brings together both RTL and PBIS\" loading=\"lazy\"><\/span><\/figure><\/div><\/div><div class=\"x-col e1251-e69 myr-j\"><div class=\"x-div e1251-e70 myr-n myr-p myr-t\"><div class=\"x-text x-text-headline e1251-e71 myr-z myr-10 myr-13\"><div class=\"x-text-content\"><div class=\"x-text-content-text\"><h3 class=\"x-text-content-text-primary\">T4T: Training for Trainers<\/h3>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div><div class=\"x-text x-content e1251-e72 myr-15 myr-16 myr-1b myr-1c\"><p><strong>Purpose:<\/strong> The purpose of the Trainer Apprenticeship process is to help individuals with knowledge and skills related to child development and early childhood education develop the specific skills and attain the knowledge they need to successfully train on the CA Teaching Pyramid for Early Elementary Modules. Authorization of Trainers will ensure that California has quality training across the state and oversight by CA Teaching Pyramid staff will promote fidelity.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Overall Teaching and Training Activities:<\/strong> The training process will follow an apprenticeship model. Once accepted, each Apprentice Trainer will work with a WestEd Mentor Trainer. The Mentor Trainer will lead the Apprentice Trainer through a process that begins with an initial period of formal instruction, modeling, and guided participation. The next stage includes co-training, feedback, and support.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Process:<\/strong> Typically, the process for training toward Authorization for Training on the CA CSEFEL Teaching Pyramid for Early Elementary is a two-year process. The first year (Apprentice 1) focuses on learning the content and observing experienced trainers, and the second year (Apprentice 2) allows for co-training with support from a mentor trainer while having multiple opportunities to debrief, reflect, and further deepen understanding of the principals. A condensed process is offered based on approval.<\/p><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><div class=\"x-row x-container max width e1251-e73 myr-2 myr-3 myr-5 myr-f\"><div class=\"x-row-inner\"><div class=\"x-col e1251-e74 myr-j\"><div class=\"x-div e1251-e75 myr-n myr-p myr-t\"><div class=\"x-text x-text-headline e1251-e76 myr-z myr-10 myr-13\"><div class=\"x-text-content\"><div class=\"x-text-content-text\"><h3 class=\"x-text-content-text-primary\">T4F: Training for (Cadre) Facilitators<\/h3>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div><div class=\"x-text x-content e1251-e77 myr-15 myr-16 myr-1b myr-1c\"><p><strong>Purpose:<\/strong> The purpose of the Facilitator Apprenticeship process is to help individuals with knowledge and skills related to child development and early childhood education develop the specific skills and attain the knowledge they need to successfully facilitate Reflective Practice Cadres for CA Teaching Pyramid for Early Elementary implementation. Authorization of Facilitators will ensure that California has quality implementation coaching across the state with oversight by CA Teaching Pyramid staff for promoting fidelity.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Overall Teaching and Facilitating Activities:<\/strong> The facilitation process will follow an apprenticeship model. Once accepted, each Apprentice Cadre Facilitator will work with a WestEd Mentor Cadre Facilitator.
