Congress enacted the Education for All Handicapped Children Act (Public Law 94-142) (EHA), in 1975, to support states and localities in protecting the rights of, meeting the individual needs of, and improving the results for infants, toddlers, children, and youth with disabilities and their families. This landmark law, whose 45th Anniversary we celebrate this year, is currently enacted as the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA), as amended in 2004. In honor of the anniversary, OSEP created an infographic that illustrates the progress of IDEA in the timeline from 1975 to the present. Take a look to find out about the changes in the law through the years and the increase in access to general education for children with disabilities.
