The Center for the Study of Social Policy (CSSP), in partnership with Casey Family Programs, presents this four page guide to share best practices for collecting data about race, ethnicity, and other personal information including sexual orientation, gender identity and expression (SOGIE), national origin, language spoken, disability, and tribal affiliation in child welfare agencies nationwide. Our purpose is to produce recommendations for how caseworkers and service providers can ask young people and families about their race, ethnicity, and other identities in more accurate, inclusive, and affirming ways, and how child welfare agencies can better report and incorporate that information to support them.
