San Mateo County (Spanish for ÒSaint MatthewÓ) is a county located in the U.S. state of California. As of the 2010 census, the population was 718,451. The county seat is Redwood City.
San Mateo County is included in the San Francisco-Oakland-Hayward, CA Metropolitan Statistical Area, and is part of the San Francisco Bay Area, the nine counties bordering San Francisco Bay. It covers most of the San Francisco Peninsula. San Francisco International Airport is located at the northern end of the county, and Silicon Valley begins at the southern end. The countyÕs built-up areas are mostly suburban with some areas being very urban, and are home to several corporate campuses.

Footsteps Childcare is a private, non-profit program that operates seven infant, toddler, preschool, and afterschool programs in San Mateo County. They serve approximately 70 children and families in their four early care settings. They adopted the Teaching Pyramid framework in 2017 and became a Partner Site in 2018. Footsteps Childcare conducts ongoing staff professional development and training in the CA Teaching Pyramid and Positive Behavior and Intervention and Supports to help children develop friendships, grow in confidence and independence, and develop respect for themselves and others.
In addition to training and coaching, the Footsteps Childcare Leadership Team has promoted these goals by establishing and maintaining program-wide behavior expectations and promoting family involvement. These efforts are reflected in Teaching Pyramid Observation Tool findings for supporting family use of teaching pyramid practices, collaborative teaming, supportive conversations with children, and teaching behavior expectations. Footsteps Childcare has contributed to statewide Teaching Pyramid implementation by contributing implementation and outcome data, participating in regular webinars, and sharing their practices in Teaching Pyramid Symposia.
